June Brides & Other Traditions

For as long as most of us can remember, the most popular month of the year to get married has always been June.  But, few people know why that is.

The tradition of June weddings dates back to the Middle Ages.

Back then people typically bathed once a year.  Usually, their annual baths fell in the months of May and June.  Brides chose to get married in June so they would look and feel their best for their wedding, which is what all brides want!

Another tradition that began in the Middle Ages is the idea of bridesmaids wearing the same dress.  Actually, bridesmaids used to wear dresses that were identical to the bride’s.  The purpose for this was to fool any “enemies” that may try to sabotage the wedding by kidnapping the bride.

The tradition of matching dresses has continued into today, with only a little bit of variation.  Most brides don’t want their maids wearing white like them, but they usually want their maids to look uniform.  Some brides have gone a step further and allow their bridesmaids to choose their own dresses of a certain color.  This way, the group looks uniform, while allowing each girl to find a dress that flatters her.
