Derby Day

This past Saturday, a Thoroughbred named Orb won the Kentucky Derby.

Seeing the Kentucky Derby in all its fashion and flair on Saturday inspired me to think about how you can incorporate hints of the Kentucky Derby if your wedding happens to fall on Derby Weekend 2014!

First is through a signature drink.  The Mint Julep is one of the most iconic drinks associated with horse racing.  It is delicious, and your guests will love the classic mint julep glasses that you could give them as favors.

The second way to incorporate the derby is by using a bright, springtime color scheme at your wedding.  Spectators love to show off their springtime best at the derby, not to mention all of the different color silks.  So why not do the same at your wedding?

The third, and a much less discreet way to integrate the derby into your big day is by naming your guest tables after different winners of the Kentucky Derby…think Secretariat, Ferdinand, and Smarty Jones just to name a few.  You could even use horseshoes as your escort cards rather than plain cardstock.
