Talking flowers – this is the part that the majority of our brides look forward to the most. And I can’t blame them, it is one of the more fun parts of the planning process for us as well! But, like with catering and cake tastings, if a bride hasn’t gone through the process before they might not know what to expect and that, in and of itself, can be stressful. So, here’s what you can expect…

Overall Vision
Most likely, you have already come up with a overall vision for your wedding and started to implement vendors that will contribute well to that vision. If you and your fiance are both foodies, you’re probably going to go with a higher end caterer that will do more creative style plates. Floral is where that vision gets to shine. If your wedding is going to be black tie in a ballroom with gorgeous crystal chandeliers, you probably are going to lean more toward a more city-chic look for your flowers, so mostly blooms and not a whole lot of greenery. If you’re going more for a garden party, you’re going to want flowers and greenery everywhere to emulate the feeling of being outside. Whatever your vision is, you get to discuss and articulate this with the florist.

Personals
Bridal bouquet, bridesmaid bouquets, boutonnieres, corsages, poseys, flower halos, oh my! There are so many honored guests at a wedding, that talking personals can take quite a bit of time. You must decide if you want your bridesmaids’ bouquets to be a smaller version of your bouquet or if you want yours to be completely different. Do the mothers and grandmothers want wrist or pin-on corsages? Any flower girls, does the church or venue you’re having your ceremony at allow flower petals? Needless to say, there are a lot of questions to be answered. Have no fear though, if you get stuck and are not sure about an answer, we’re right there with you happy to offer advice!

Flowers
Obviously, right? Are you a major lover of pink peonies but getting married in August? Chances are they are not going to be available, and if they are they will be verrrrrry expensive. So, let your florist help you find a similar flower that will be in season to give you that same lush look. For example, garden roses and ranunculus with all their soft petals appear very similar to peonies when you’re an arm’s length away and it will save you a bundle.

Containers
This is where the floral vision rounds out. Yes, those hydrangeas, ranunculus, and roses will look gorgeous no matter what, but putting them in a clear cylinder versus a mercury glass compote is a makes a huge difference in the overall feeling. This goes back to your overall vision. If you’re looking at a city-chic ballroom reception, you’re probably going to lean more toward clear glass containers. But, if you’re going more garden-party, then a mix of vintage silver and mercury glass containers will give your wedding the perfect eclectic feel.
